For workplace projects we prioritize a restful and peaceful landscape, an area of refuge for those who work in the adjacent office spaces. We tend to use mass planting and geometric organization to aid wayfinding and provide interesting patterns if viewed from above. When space allows, we emphasize using exterior spaces as a less formal place to convene and engage in camaraderie with colleagues. When the workplace looks and feels more academic in nature, there is a greater connection to learning, mentoring, and collaboration which fosters greater employee buy-in and increases retention. Our approach is to design a functional landscape with easy maintenance by using simple plantings with durable species choices. We also favor using regionally adapted species which have a natural succession and provide seasonal interest.
